As the two Ring-bearers, Samwise Gamgee and Frodo Baggins slowly headed to
Mordor and Mount Doom, more obstacles stood in their way. On top of orcs
swarming the place threatening to find them, The Ring has also been poisoning
Frodo’s thoughts, possessing his mind. The armies of the Dark Lord are massing as
his evil shadow spreads ever wider. The ten brave heroes are ever closer to destroying
the Ring once and for all. Can they successfully save Middle-Earth?

2The real hero

Most books emphasize the importance of the main character, such as Harry
Potter beating Lord Voldemort in an epic battle; Percy Jackson saving Mount
Olympus and defending Manhattan; or Luke Skywalker joining hands with Darth
Vader to defeat Darth Sidious. These heroes are undoubtedly important and vital in
these stories, but in The Lord Of The Rings, the main character, Frodo Baggins, isn’t
necessarily the big hero in the series. In my opinion, Samwise Gamgeeis is the real
hero of the quest.

Samwise Gamgee is the gardener and best friend of Frodo Baggins. When Sam
first hears the news of Frodo being on the quest to destroy the Ring, he immediately
volunteers to join and protect him. There are a lot of traits of a hero, selflessness,
courage, determination, inspiration, protection, self-sacrifice, strength ……etc. The
Lord of the Rings has no shortage of heroic figures. Bold yet diplomatic Aragorn, the
king of Gondor; the skilled warrior Boromir, captain of the White Tower; the wise
wizard Gandalf, whose powers, wisdom, and kindness were largely unmatched. Many
more heroes were involved, but why is Samwise Gamgee above all of them? He’s not
of royal lineage nor a gifted fighter, with no talent with swords, bows, axes, and such.
But Sam represents a kind of heroism that all of us could possess, he is loyal, good,
humble, unselfish, and tenderhearted. These are traits that we humans rarely have.
Whenever the odds are against him, he stands in front of the danger and protects
Frodo; when the Ring is poisoning Frodo’s mind, he’s there to carry his best friend to
his goal. 「Come, Mr. Frodo! Sam cried. I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.」
Sam is willing to risk everything to protect his best friend, driving them both on the
right path to Mount Doom. It’s undoubtedly that Frodo is a hero on his own, but
without Sam’s care, help, and, guidance, Frodo would never have accomplished his
goal, and the efforts would be in vain.

Kindness and loyalty are two very powerful traits, you may be able to defeat
strength, courage, and determination, but no one can pull apart a guy with kindness
and loyalty. No matter how bad the situation is, he or she could always defy the odds
and emerge victorious. Sam is that kind of hero, not often noticed or celebrated, and
underrated in terms of stature or temperament, but a hero motivated solely by
friendship, loyalty, and love. Although initially sent on this journey as a punishment
for eavesdropping, as they reach Rivendell and Council of Elrond are decide the fate
of Frodo, he insists on accompanying Frodo on this dangerous trip to Mordor. Though
the trip would be very dangerous, Sam remains firmly devoted. Throughout the
journey, it is Sam who watches over Frodo when he’s resting, it is Sam who cooks
meals, carries loads, and ensures no harm is done to Frodo. Frodo indeed bears the
great responsibility of the Ring, but in other words, Sam bears Frodo.

In the intricate tapestry of human relationships, kindness and loyalty stand as two
pillars that uphold the bonds we forge with others. They are not just admirable
qualities but the threads that weave together the fabric of friendship, compassion, and
enduring. Kindness and loyalty form an unbreakable partnership, reinforcing and
complementing each other. Kindness softens the rough edges of life, making it easier
to extend trust and loyalty to others. Loyalty, in turn, is a testament to the enduring
impact of kindness, as it fosters a sense of reciprocity and gratitude in relationships.
So no, we may not be able to adventure with the elves or the dwarfs, but we can
follow the footsteps of Sam and show kindness and loyalty to battle the evil.

There’s some good in this world—and it’s worth fighting for.
